Summer Camp

Camping is what makes scouting great! This webpage is dedicated to helping you and your unit enjoy the best outdoor program possible.

The greatest adventures of a Scout's life begin at Boy Scout or Cub Scout camp. Where but in the great outdoors can a boy hear the midnight hush of the deep woods ... breathe the sweetness of distant wood-smoke ... look down in awe at where he's been, and look up in wonder at where he still must go ... glimpse the deer drinking at first light ... watch eagles soaring in a cloudless sky ... feel the warmth of the campfire as it glows orange against the thickening darkness ... and at the end of a long day, hear the hooting owl under a sky flashing with stars.

Who can say that in such an atmosphere a youth's mind is not reached, his faith not freshened, or his heart not stirred. Or that, in ways that are a mystery to us all, he will not grow closer to the man he is becoming.

Join the adventure this summer! The Cascade Pacific Council has wonderful camps to choose from.

Boy Scouts Camps

Meriwether-Every Scout dreams of fun and adventure at summer camp. Since 1926 Camp Meriwether has been bringing these dreams to life. This facility is now part of a 780 acre Scout reservation.

The mighty Pacific Ocean provides the dramatic backdrop for this full service camp with 2 miles of private beach. The camp includes LakeChamberlain, a fresh-water lake for swimming and boating, a trading post, a .22 rifle range, a shotgun range, an archery range, a black powder range, scoutcraft, handicraft and an ecology study center. For experienced campers, Meriwether offers high adventure hikes and a rock climbing program on our 35' tower.

More than 2,700 Scouts and 700 leaders enjoy Camp Meriwether each summer. They stay in one of eighteen campsites, some with platform tents and some with Adirondack cabins. Meal times in the dining hall is one of the most popular parts of camp! Meriwether also has a beautiful chapel with a view of the ocean.

Far more important to a Scout than these wonderful facilities are the outstanding young men and women of the Meriwether staff. The staff is the kind of older Scout that each camper will look up to and want to be like. They are trained at National Camp School to make every Scout feel special and give him a great camping experience.

Baldwin-Camp Baldwin is a premier summer camp for Boy Scouts during summer months. The camp offers a number of high-adventure activities, including horseback riding, mountain biking, rock climbing and rapelling, mountainboarding, white water rafting, and windsurfing.

Baldwin operates as a Jamboree style cooking camp, with Scouts cooking most meals in their campsite.  The camp commissary prepares raw food product and delivers throughout camp twice each day to ensure plenty of quality food is provided to all campers.  This patrol-style cooking lends itself well to troops wishing to strengthen their patrols and young leaders, as cooking together is a time proven way for boys to gain teamwork and leadership skills.

Pioneer-A true "mountain camp" located on the western edge of the Mount Jefferson Wilderness, Camp Pioneer offers outstanding opportunities to make your summer camp experiences memorable. Pine Ridge Lake offers rowing, canoeing, small boat sailing and swimming. "Outbound activities" and Scoutcraft skills such as pioneering, cooking, and nature study are offered. The field sports of archery, and .22 rifle are also available. Incredible hiking and backpacking program. The wilderness backcountry of Mount Jefferson and dozens of mountain lakes are within hiking distance of camp. Become a Cascade Ranger to take part in our high adventure activities: hikes, climbs, caving, overnighters. A week of exploring, learning, and having an incredible experience in an incredible environment, the Mt Jefferson Wilderness.

Cub Scouts Camps

The purpose of Cub Scout camping is to have fun and to create an environment to learn, grow, and continue along the Scouting trail.  Every boy should have the opportunity to attend summer camp.

Choosing a Cub Scout Camp

Cub Scouts in Cascade Pacific Council are in for a treat each and every summer of their Cub years.  The council offers ten day camps throughout the council, and three overnight camps that are designed to help the youngest Scouts ease into wonderful camping adventures, beginning with two-night camps and progressing to a full-week adventure that will prepare them to become Boy Scouts.  All of this is part of our Ages and Stages plan.

Ages and Stages:

Our camps are planned to serve specific ages so that boys progress from camp to camp as they grow and their interests change. This progression also gives them a variety of camp experiences from summer to summer. Day Camps operate on a five-year rotation of themes so a boy could attend five years in a row (if he were unable to attend resident camp), and have a different experience each year.

Cub World-Cub World operates on a two-year theme cycle as many Cub Scouts attend Cub World twice before they move on to Gilbert Ranch.

Gilbert Ranch-First Year Webelos attend Gilbert Ranch, which has the same program each year, then move to Adventure Cove as Second-Year Webelos. Boys must be Webelos to attend Gilbert Ranch and Adventure Cove, as these camps are specifically designed for these age groups and physical abilities.

Adventure Cove-Adventure Cove gives the Second-Year Webelos a full week (five night) camping experience which helps get them ready to join Boy Scouts the following year, and the program is designed to help the Second-Year Webelos start learning basic Scouting skills in preparation for the Boy Scout program.

Day Camps

Camp Ireland-Camp Ireland is located about two miles north of downtown Hillsboro, Oregon, nearly surrounded by McKay Creek. The majority of camp is accessible only by crossing a long suspension bridge. During July and August, the camp is used for Cub Scout Day Camp, but the rest of the year Camp Ireland is available for any Scout group to use.

Cub Scout day camp at Camp Ireland is an exciting program for young Cub Scouts.  The camp features crafts, games, bb guns and archery, songs and skits...all the fun a Cub Scout has been looking forward to all year long!

Camp Discovery-Camp Discovery is located on the Scouters' Mountain property.  This camp is operated as a day camp each summer, and is available for weekend camping.  The camp has a number of program shelters, picnic tables, running water, campfire bowl, and space to pitch tents.
